LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced to ease lockdown allowing people to spend more time outdoors from Wednesday and return to work.
“From this Wednesday we want to encourage people to take more and even unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise”, said Boris Johnson, in a move to resume activity in the country after more than six-week long lockdown.
While addressing the nation, the UK premier said that the people can sit in the sun or in a local park, and can drive to other destinations. “You can even play sports but only with members of your own household,” he added.
The UK prime minister, who last month recovered from the infection, pitched the new slogan ‘Stay alert’ to save lives instead of ‘Stay at home’.
He also maintained that primary schools may start opening in June, adding that shops and some of the hospitality industry may resume working in July. Johnson further revealed a plan that people who will be entering the country by air will be quarantined or 14 days.
Currently, there are now more than 219,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK and more than 31,800 people have died. The actual number of cases is estimated to be higher because testing was limited to hospital patients.
