LONDON: Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have sent wedding invitations to family and friends for July 30, 2022.
According to a British daily, the details of the couple’s wedding destination remain a closely guarded secret. In February 2020, Johnson and his Carrie Symonds said they were engaged to be married.
Like many couples, they had put their marriage plans on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic with numbers able to attend ceremonies curtailed. While this will be Johnson third marriage, it will be the first for Symonds.
Johnson, 56, and Symonds, 33, have been living together in Downing Street since Johnson became prime minister in 2019. They have son named Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson born in April last year.
Johnson, known for his rumpled appearance and flamboyant oratory, was previously married to Marina Wheeler, and they had four children together.
They announced in September 2018 that they had separated and would divorce after 25 years of marriage. Johnson was also married once to Allegra Mostyn-Owen and Symonds will be his third wife.
It is unknown where exactly the couple will celebrate the occasion. The prime minister’s residence in Buckinghamshire is tipped to host the wedding. Another possible venue is said to be the Port Lympne safari park in Kent, as Symonds works for the conservation charity. It had also been previously reported that the pair could marry in Italy where Symonds has relatives.
However, a source told the Sun: “It would be nice for Chequers to be in the news for happy reasons for once.” The paper said the location would remain secret but the save-the-date cards were for Saturday 30 July.
Johnson and Symonds are the first unmarried couple to live in Downing Street and he reportedly proposed on holiday on the Caribbean Island of Mustique. Their engagement was announced in February last year.
The same month, Johnson had formally divorced his estranged wife Marina Wheeler, with whom he has two daughters and two sons. Johnson was also once married to Allegra Mostyn-Owen.
