Anita Dugal, a British Muslim convert known as Ayesha, has leveled serious accusations against social activist Saram Burney, alleging that Burney is engaged in fraudulent activities under the guise of humanitarian work.
Speaking at a press conference at the Nawabshah Press Club, Ayesha revealed her personal ordeal, stating that she fell in love with a young Pakistani man, married him, converted to Islam, and subsequently traveled to Pakistan.
“I suffered abuse from my husband, and in despair, I attempted to end my life at the beach,” she recounted. “Those present intervened to prevent my suicide and referred me to the Sarim Burney Trust.”
Ayesha went on to claim that Sarim Burney collected approximately Rs600,000 from donations intended to facilitate her relocation to the UK but failed to fulfill his promise.
According to Ayesha, Sarim Burney allegedly detained her against her will, confiscated her passport, and other travel documents.
“When I requested my passport, Sarim Burney threatened me,” she alleged.
Ayesha mentioned that she was pressured to marry Sarim Burney, a proposal she refused.
“I saw numerous British passports in Burney’s office, which made me realize the extent of the deception,” she disclosed.
A guardian from the Sarim Burney Trust, Ghulam Mustafa, reportedly intervened to help Ayesha escape from what she described as imprisonment by Sarim Burney.
Describing Sarim Burney as a “demon in human form” masquerading as a social worker, Ayesha called for severe consequences for his actions.
Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested prominent social activist Sarim Burney on allegation of human trafficking.
