Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has made a stellar debut at the box office. The film opened with a strong Rs 60.3 crore net in India on its first day, including paid previews on Wednesday. This impressive start surpassed the opening day collections of 2023 hits Animal and Pathaan. On its second day, Stree 2 continued its successful run by earning Rs 30 crore net, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
With a total of Rs 90.3 crore nett so far, the Amar Kaushik directorial is set to cross the Rs 100 crore mark today. The horror-comedy saw an overall Hindi occupancy of 45.31 percent on Friday, following the Independence Day holiday on Thursday. In the Delhi-NCR region, where the film had 1,175 shows, occupancy was 56.75 percent, while in Mumbai, with 1,107 shows, it was 43.5 percent.
Released alongside Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa on Independence Day, Stree 2 has significantly outperformed its competitors. Khel Khel Mein, starring Akshay Kumar, collected Rs 1.9 crore on its second day, bringing its total to Rs 6.95 crore. Vedaa, featuring John Abraham, saw a major drop, earning Rs 1.6 crore and bringing its total to Rs 7.9 crore. Other regional films released on August 15, such as Double iSmart (Telugu), Thangalaan (Tamil), and Mr Bachchan (Telugu), also competed in the box office race.
With an extended weekend ahead due to Raksha Bandhan on Monday, Stree 2 is poised for a historic opening weekend. The film’s first-day gross was previously reported to be Rs 76.5 crore.
Stree 2 has already surpassed last year’s Independence Day release Gadar 2, which earned Rs 83.18 crore in its first two days. As the fifth installment in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, following Stree (2018), Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya, Stree 2 continues to build on this successful franchise.
The film also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles.
