On the instructions of Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the party’s senator Qasim Roonjho resigned from his seat on Tuesday. A private TV channel reported.
Roonjho submitted his resignation to the secretary Senate. The senator was also BNP-Mengal’s parliamentary leader in the House.
The BNP chief had demanded resignations from both party senators Roonjho and Senator Naseema Ihsan for voting for the 26th constitutional amendments in the Senate on Sunday against the party lines.
On the other hand, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has submitted a reference to the National Assembly speaker against party lawmaker Adil Bazai for failing to vote on the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who also belongs to the PML-N, has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan, demanding the disqualification of Bazai and declaring his seat vacant.
Bazai was absent from the session and did not cast his vote. He had initially joined the PML-N before later switching to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The speaker has called for immediate action to de-seat Bazai.
