KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party leader and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday severely criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for its political ambitions, including Long March, and urged upon the need to pause politics so that focus could be given to relief activities in flood-hit areas.
Addressing a crowded press conference, he termed the recent flood as worst in the history of the country, saying that the disaster caused financial damages more than those suffered during Covid-19 days. He held developed nations responsible for the floods that submerged one-third of Pakistan, saying that “rich countries burdened us to become richer and brought climate change.”
He further said that the nation needed to prepare for climate change. “We need to shape our infrastructure so we could tackle natural disasters in a better way,” said Bilawal adding that both Sindh and the federal governments were working to make better infrastructure.
Bilawal said more than four million acres of agricultural land were inundated due to the flood and people in Sindh would only be able to start working for new crops by November. He said 33 million people were affected by the floods which was more than the population of many countries.
He said that the recent flood was a natural calamity but instead of extending helping hand, a few people in the country were to divert their attention from the relief activities by doing politics. He said
