Bangladesh on Tuesday achieved a historic Test series whitewash against Pakistan, securing a six-wicket victory in the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Starting their innings on the fifth day at 42-0, Bangladesh chased down the target of 185 with six wickets remaining. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan remained unbeaten, scoring 22 and 21 runs respectively, to lead Bangladesh to their first-ever Test series win against Pakistan.
A day earlier, Pakistan’s batting lineup collapsed to a total of 172, overwhelmed by Bangladesh’s pace attack, spearheaded by Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana. Mahmud and Rana were the key architects of Pakistan’s downfall, taking five and four wickets, respectively.
Pakistan, beginning their day precariously at 9/2, saw a brief recovery with a 38-run partnership between Saim Ayub and captain Shan Masood. However, this resistance was short-lived as Ayub, who scored 20 runs off 35 balls, fell to Taskin Ahmed.
The middle order provided some fight, with Mohammad Rizwan contributing 43 runs off 73 balls, including five boundaries. Despite his efforts, wickets continued to fall around him. Abrar Ahmed managed just two runs from 12 deliveries before being dismissed. Mahmud then claimed the final wicket of Mir Hamza, who scored four runs, ending Pakistan’s innings at 172. Salman provided some stability with an unbeaten 47, but it wasn’t enough to lift Pakistan to a more competitive total.
Hasan Mahmud’s performance was historic as he secured his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket, becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to achieve this milestone on Pakistani soil.
