BANGLADESH: For the first time in Bangladesh, a local television station has hired a transgender named Tashnuva Anan Shishir as a newscaster.
Speaking about her appointment as a news anchor, Tashnuva Anan Shishir said she and her community is overwhelmed with this. A performer by profession, a 29-year-old Tashnuva has previously been a model who turned into an actress later for a long time.
While revealing about her journey of knowing who she really was, Shishir asserted that she discovered in her early teens she was trapped in a man’s body. She shared she was sexually assaulted and bullied for years. According to her, the bullying was so unbearable that she attempted suicide four times.
“When I couldn’t cope with it anymore, I left home… I couldn’t stand the neighbours telling my father about how I should act or walk in a masculine way.” She fled her home and later underwent hormone therapy, took jobs working for charities, and acted in theatres, all the while keeping up her studies.
