Swimming and boating in rivers, dams and canals have been banned in Peshawar during the monsoon season. Authorities have warned that violations of the district administration’s orders will result in action under Section 188.
According to details, the district administration has imposed Section 144 across Peshawar until the end of the monsoon season. Illegal boating and swimming in rivers and canals throughout the city will remain prohibited.
Swimming has also been banned in the Kabul River Canal, Jolly Sheikh Canal and Budhni Nala. Bathing in the Bara River, Shah Alam, Naguman and Adezai rivers has also been prohibited.
A ban has further been imposed on swimming in the Warsak Gravity Canal and Warsak Lift Canal. Boating using inner tubes and recreational activities along water banks have also been declared prohibited.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert over the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the PDMA, rising temperatures and extreme heat are causing glaciers to melt rapidly, increasing the risk of sudden glacial lake outbursts and potential flooding.
