QUETTA: The Balochistan Bar Council has disavowed a “misconduct” reference filed against Justice Sayyed Mazahar All Akbar Naqvi under Article 209 of the Constitution in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).
A segment of the media, generally believed to be aligned with the government, reported that the Balochistan Bar Council, through its Chairman Executive Committee and Member Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Balochistan), had filed a reference of “misconduct” against Justice Naqvi.
However, the Balochistan Bar Council has categorically denied the news within hours, stating that they haven’t filed any such reference.
The member of Pakistan Bar Council Balochistan, Munir Kakar, reacted to the news by saying that such a reference might be an attempt on personality capacity by a few elements to make political gains.
Talking to media, Munir Kakar further explained that no bar or any lawyers’ body, including high court, district bars, passed any resolution in favor of filing any reference against Justice Naqvi. “This is nothing but a political stunt being played in the current scenario,” he added.
The development is believed to have served as a blow to to ongoing efforts of targeting and maligning judiciary, and has also raised questions about the credibility of the media outlets that initially reported the story.
