LAHORE: In a move set to bring relief to daily commuters, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced the restoration of the iconic Babu Passenger Train, a long-awaited decision for travelers between Lahore and Lala Musa.
The train, which was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, will officially resume operations from August 20, 2026.
The decision comes in response to growing public demand and the need to improve connectivity for passengers relying on this historic route.
The Babu Passenger Train, known for its affordability and accessibility, has been a staple for local travelers, and its reinstatement is expected to ease transportation challenges in the region.
Minister’s statement
In his statement, Minister Abbasi emphasized that this restoration is part of a broader initiative to revive Pakistan Railways.
He revealed that more suspended trains will be reintroduced later this year, with a strong focus on enhancing passenger facilities and modernizing rail services.
The government aims to make rail travel more efficient, reliable, and passenger-friendly, he added.
