Tragedy struck in Sheikhupura as four members of a family fell victim to a brutal ax attack on Sunday.
The incident unfolded in the Saddar police station area, resulting in the alleged murder of four family members, with one additional member sustaining injuries.
The victims identified include 80-year-old Shah Muhammad, his 62-year-old wife Ushra, 18-year-old daughter Kiran, and 8-year-old grandson. Promptly responding to the distress call, police officials arrived at the scene, initiating an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
Concurrently, in Ghotki, a village named Jam Bajar experienced a deadly assault, leaving at least five individuals dead and two injured in an armed attack.
According to the police, unidentified gunmen targeted the village, attributing the violence to an ongoing feud between two clans. The assailants reportedly attacked a Bethak (meeting place) in the village. These incidents highlight the prevalence of lawlessness in Ghotki and neighboring districts of upper Sindh, with the geographic proximity to the katcha area (riverine forests) amplifying criminal activities orchestrated by bandit gangs, often supported by tribal leaders and influential figures.
The riverine forests, extending into Sindh and the southern belt of Punjab, have historically served as a breeding ground for bandit gangs involved in criminal enterprises such as kidnappings for ransom and other illicit activities along both banks of the Indus River.
