PESHAWAR: At least 20 people have sustained critical injuries in an explosion in Parachinar’s Turi Bazaar in Kurram District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to details, police and security personnel have cordoned off the area. A team from the Bomb Disposal Squad also reached the spot to comb through the area and check for other IEDs.
A police spokesperson has informed that the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device (IED). The explosive material had been hidden inside a vegetable cart.
District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Qaiser Abbas Bangash said that at least 20 injured, including a child, were brought to the facility. Meanwhile, residents of the area have staged a protest outside the local press club.
Opposition leader in National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the affected families and prayed for the injured people.

He said that the terrorists seek to target citizens and leave Pakistan in the grip of terror. “The whole nation is united against the enemies of Pakistan,” he added.
In this regard, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also condemned the attack and expressed concern over the increase in terrorism-related incidents.

He said, “Lack of implementation of the National Action Plan has encouraged terrorists,” adding that those involved in the incident should be immediately arrested. Bilawal directed all PPP representatives present in Parachinar to come to the aid of those injured.
