Caracas: The wife and two children of Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo have been confirmed dead following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week, according to the player’s club.
In a statement, the club expressed its deepest condolences to Trejo and his family, confirming the tragic loss after an intensive search operation.
According to international media reports, Trejo’s wife, Yanina Maranella, and their two children, Aarón Trejo and Ainhoa Trejo, were at their apartment in the coastal state of La Guaira when the powerful earthquakes caused their residential building to collapse. Initially reported missing, rescue teams later recovered their bodies from the rubble.
At the time of the disaster, Trejo was in Caracas with his team preparing for an upcoming match. Following the earthquakes, he made an emotional appeal on social media, asking the public to pray for and help locate his family.
The twin earthquakes, which struck Venezuela on June 24, have caused widespread devastation across the country. According to the latest official and humanitarian reports, thousands of people have been killed or injured, with many others still missing as rescue operations continue.
