An announcement of not engaging in conflict has emerged. The Election Commission of Pakistan has declared the forthcoming nationwide general elections to be held three months later. It is believed by various parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that if it is not allowed to participate in the elections, the public will not accept the election results.
As per a report published in Pakistani media yesterday, PTI stated that they will not contest against any state institution, nor will they issue a statement against civil and military leadership regarding their decision to contest future elections.
The PTI’s Information Secretary, Rauf Hassan, mentioned their disagreement with the party lawyer Barrister Gohar Khan’s statement, which referred to the aforementioned statement. The party believes that they will enter the electoral fray with the determination to make the country an Islamic welfare state based on the principles of the State of Medina.
Two days ago, Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja had a meeting with the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Anwar ul Haq regarding election preparations. The Election Commission of Pakistan also issued a statement regarding the meeting.
According to the statement, the Chief Election Commissioner was briefing the Prime Minister on election preparations and informed that all necessary preparations for the general elections on February 8, 2024, have been completed.
On the other hand, the Superintendent of the Adiala Jail has decided not to allow Imran Khan’s meetings with his sons based on the contempt of court notice, and submitted their response in a special court under the Secret Act.
Adiala Jail apologized, stating that although on October 18, special measures were taken to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan’s sons, it’s not possible to conduct international conversations through WhatsApp in the jail.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement brought attention to the time when Shahbaz Sharif was made Prime Minister when the country was practically bankrupt, inflation was at its peak, and who caused expensive electricity.
Nawaz Sharif questioned who took the most loans, asserting that they did not indulge in such practices. If we want economic progress, we must work at double the speed. We have never discriminated against any region, nor will we ever.
Nawaz Sharif’s return is a crucial point after which some movement has been seen in the country’s politics, as preparations by the Muslim League (N) are ongoing for elections, while other parties, including MQM, are considering new strategies for success in the elections.
In this context, PTI’s statement “We will not contest against any state institution but will proceed into the elections with the intention of establishing an Islamic welfare state according to the principles of the State of Medina” is not a subtle indication.
Similar gestures in the past have also been given by PTI Chairman Imran Khan in favor of the establishment. Today, the biggest question in politics is whether PTI will be allowed to participate in the general elections with the same leniency as other parties have been granted.
