An overview of PSL’ teams

Nigah Muhammad by Nigah Muhammad
February 4, 2023

The draft i.e., finalization of teams for the 8th season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) was held yesterday, now all the teams have been finalized and will show their performance in the eighth edition of PSL starting from February 9.

Karachi Kings already have captain Imad Wasim, Shoaib Malik, Muhammad Amir, Sharjeel Khan, Haider Ali, Mir Hamza, Aamir Yameen, Qasim Akram and now The team will be joined by Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, Imran Tahir, England’s James Wins, Australia’s Andrew Tye, Tayyab Tahir.  In emerging category Mohammad Akhlaq and Irfan Khan Niazi will also be part of Karachi Kings, while Tabreez Shamsi and Muhammad Umar will be part of the team in supplementary category.

This PSL season will have big problems for Karachi Kings, because last year its performance was not so good and this time, they also don’t have the services of Babar Azam. Let see, how Imad Wasim unites the boys and wins the PSL 8 title for the team.

If we talk about Lahore Qalandars, which has always defeated the opposing teams due to its fast bowling, and their coaches and owners also say that bowlers win you the tournament. And this will not be wrong because the team in which Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan like bowlers are present, could not be defeated easily. Kamran Ghulam, Harry Brooke, Zaman Khan, Fakhr Zaman, Hussain Talat, Sikandar Raza, Laine Donson, Dilbar Hussain, Mirza Tahir Baig, Ahmad Daniyal, Shahvez Irfan and Jalad Khan will also be part of the Lahore Qalandar.

Now if we talk about the most favorite team Islamabad United, who already had players like Shadab Khan as captain, Asif Ali, Muhammad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Paul Starling and Colin Munro. Now they will have new players Alex Hales, Rehmanullah, Fazalul Haq Farooqui, Abrar Ahmed, Sohaib Maqsood, Roman Raees and Zeeshan Zameer and Hasan Nawaz in the youth category and Moin Ali and Mubashir Khan in the supplementary category. United have always been the most loved team in PSL for their aggressive style and never back down in chasing big scores and their selection this time also shows that it is capable to win the cup.

Now if we talk about Quetta Gladiators who’s last 2-3 years have not been good in terms of PSL and it will not be wrong to say that this PSL season is a game of life and death for Gladiators. Because this time they will have to show good performance, the way they did at the start of the PSL.  This time too, Sarfraz Ahmed will be the captain while Jason Roy, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Hasnain, Muhammad Nawaz, Umar Akmal, Naveen-ul-Haq, Bill Smith as well as Bindu Hasringa, Naseem Shah, Adeen Smith, Ehsan Ali, Umeed Asif, Muhammad Zahid, Abdul Waheed Banglazai, Amil Khan, Martin Gabtil and Umeer Bin Yusuf will be part of the team.

In Peshawar Zalmi, Babar Azam will be the new captain, while Wahab Riaz, Rutherford, Muhammad Haris, Aamir Jamal, Tom Kohler Cadmore, Salman Irshad, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Roman Powell, Mujeebur Rahman, Danish Aziz, Arshad Iqbal, Saeem Ayub, Usman Qadir, Safian Moqim, James Neesham will play for this side. Fans have high expectations from the new captain Babar Azam because he is not only the best batsman of Pakistan but also of the world, and therefore it is important for Peshawar Zalmi to win this title. This team have always played aggressive cricket and have won the matches.

Now finally let’s talk about Multan Sultans who joined PSL a litter bit late, but its performance improved with the passage of time, and last year it performed very well, that is why Multan Sultans is among the favorites teams this year. Mohammad Rizwan is its captain, while Shaan Masood, Khushdil Shah, Royal Russo, Shahnawaz Dhani, Tim David, Ehsanullah, Abbas Afridi, David Miller, Josh Little, Aqeel Hussain, Osama Mir, Usman Khan, Anwar Ali, Adil Rashid and Arafat Minhas will be part of the team.

This time all teams of PSL are very balanced and it show that the matches will be very interested. Keeping in views all the teams one cannot predict which team will be the winner of PSL8, however, the tournament will be won by the team which will play well and make least mistakes.
