Punjab’s government has greenlit Lahore’s inaugural tram service, marking a significant stride in urban transportation for the city. It will be the first tram service in the country.
Although an exact launch date remains undisclosed, authorities are prioritizing swift project completion to swiftly benefit residents. Ticket pricing details will be finalized soon.
The tram’s 11-kilometer route will link key areas like Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road, with stops spaced approximately every 1 to 1.5 kilometers. Inspired by successful systems in Finland and China, Lahore’s tram will offer a modern, comfortable ride.
Beyond functionality, the initiative aims to elevate Lahore’s urban charm. Plans by the Lahore Development Authority include revitalizing MM Alam Road with enhanced aesthetics, featuring uniform roads and tough tiles for a cohesive look. The project encompasses construction, renovation, and rehabilitation efforts in Gulberg and adjacent areas, ensuring seamless integration with Lahore’s existing infrastructure.
In addition to the tram service, the Chief Minister also approved the development of a signal-free corridor stretching from Kareem Block to the Motorway.
