The Ministry of Information Technology has set the first quarter of 2025 as its target for the availability of 5G services in Pakistan. Prior to the launch, all stakeholders will be consulted and taken into confidence.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology, officials from the Ministry of IT stated that the government is making every effort to launch 5G services between January and March 2025.
The standing committee has recommended changes to the 5G policy, suggesting that telecom companies be allowed to make installment payments and that a strategy be developed to ensure 5G services are available nationwide.
Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, briefed the committee, stating, “The government has begun work on launching 5G. Revenue and infrastructure need to be managed concurrently for 5G.”
“The Ministry of IT has set a target to launch 5G in the first quarter of 2025. Efforts are focused on shortlisting consultants and restructuring for the 5G launch,” she added.
Former IT Minister and Standing Committee Chairman Syed Aminul Haque highlighted, “Telecom companies face issues with dollar payments. The purpose of 5G is to provide convenience to the public and facilitate business, so the government should resolve these issues.”
