GILGIT: Mountaineer, Nazir Sabir has clarified that Muhammad Ali Sadpara was not a porter in the expedition team, saying Ali is a world-class climber from Pakistan.
According to details, a controversy doing rounds on social media after an interview of the mountaineer, Nazir Sabir in which he mistakenly said that Ali Sadpara was working as a porter.
However, later Nazir Sabir issued an explanatory statement in which Nazir Sabir admitted that a mistake was made in the choice of words due to a sudden interview of a YouTuber.
Sabir said, “Ali Sadpara is a world-class climber from Pakistan and we climbed Nanga Parbat together and we are a good friends”. Nazir Sabir “He is a genuine man inside out, as a climber and in daily life.”
He said chances of surviving the extremely cold weather after remaining missing for three days and without proper gear were very low, adding that operations could be conducted to retrieve the bodies.
After reports that Sadpara, along with John Snorri from Iceland and JP Mohr Prieto from Chile, successfully summited K2, news emerged that the three had gone missing.
According to reports, Muhammad Ali Sadpara, MP Mohr from Chile and John Snorri from Iceland have not been getting in touch since the three began their push for the K2 summit from camp.
Special search and rescue missions are using advanced technology to recover the missing mountaineers. The families of three missing climbers have vowed to carry on with a rescue mission despite the inclement weather with the help of sophisticated satellite data to search every inch of K2.
“For the first time ever, this team is working with the Iceland Space Agency to review SAR technology not SAT technology -never before used in search and rescue – to cover every inch of the higher elevations of this mountain despite the bad conditions,” a statement said.
The families and friends have set up a virtual base camp to ensure a thorough search-and-rescue effort. The camp has been established by Rao Ahmad, Ali Sadpara’s long-time friend and Sajid Sadpara, Ali Sadpara’s son, along with British-American climber, Vanessa O’Brien, who also serves as Pakistan’s Goodwill Ambassador and summited K2 with John Snorri.
