ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed concern over the ongoing unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), warning that the situation is harming both the Kashmir cause and Pakistan’s international image.
In a statement, Bilawal Bhutto said the continued tensions in AJK were creating unnecessary opportunities for hostile elements, including what he described as the India-Israel nexus, to exploit the situation for their own objectives.
He urged protesters to end their demonstrations peacefully, stressing that all political grievances and differences should be resolved through democratic, constitutional and peaceful means.
The PPP chairman said his party had already called on the Election Commission to withdraw the early election schedule announced for AJK, arguing that political concerns should be addressed before moving forward.
Bilawal said the PPP remains committed to finding a political solution and would work towards establishing a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address pending grievances and promote political harmony in the region.
He added that if all stakeholders, including the federal government, agree, the AJK government could review notifications issued against protesting groups. He emphasized that individuals who had committed no wrongdoing should not suffer the consequences of the actions of others.
Commenting on the prospects of a peace agreement between Iran and the United States, Bilawal described the possibility of the proposed “Islamabad Agreement” being signed as a historic moment, saying global attention was firmly focused on Pakistan.
