Afghan envoy summoned over harassment of Pakistani diplomats

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Sunday summoned the Afghan Charge d’Affairs in Islamabad to express concern over the harassment and treatment of Pakistani diplomats in Afghanistan.
According to a statement from Foreign Office, spokesman Dr Faisal Muhammad expressed serious concerns over the safety and security of the diplomatic personnel of the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul and its sub-missions.
“The Afghan Cd’A was informed that the Officers and Staff of the Embassy of Pakistan were being harassed over the past two days. They were obstructed on the road and the Embassy vehicles were also hit by motorcycles while going towards the Embassy,” said the statement.
The Afghan envoy was reminded that under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities 1961, it is the responsibility of the Afghan government to ensure “safety, security and freedom of movement to all members of the mission.”
The diplomat was was asked to convey to Afghan authorities to immediately investigate these security violations and harassment incidents.
He was asked to share a report in this regard with the government of Pakistan in this regard, and ensure such incidents do not occur in future.
