The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially initiated the recruitment process for a new permanent head coach, following reports that Aaqib Javed is considering stepping down from his coaching role to pursue a new position as Director of the High-Performance Centre.
On Saturday, the PCB posted a formal advertisement on its website, outlining the qualifications required for the head coach position.
The board is seeking candidates with a Level III coaching certification and at least 10 years of experience coaching national or domestic cricket teams.
Javed, who was serving as the interim head coach, was initially appointed until the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. However, his tenure was extended to cover the recent white-ball tour of New Zealand, which concluded earlier this month. The PCB has now opted not to grant any further extensions to the former fast bowler.
Despite the end of his interim coaching role, Javed may continue to serve in Pakistan’s cricket structure, as he has expressed interest in the Director of the High-Performance Centre role. The PCB has also advertised this vacancy, which became available following the resignation of Nadeem Khan.
Reports indicate that the PCB is facing a shortage of qualified former national players for key roles and is now increasingly inclined toward hiring a foreign head coach.
