Being a celebrity, whether an actor or a politician is never easy. Such figures are always under scrutiny, not only their privacy but what they say how they deliver a message also matters a lot.
Here is the list of Pakistani celebrities who have uttered some of the shocking statements on record, whether intentional or unintentional but such words were enough to grab people’s attention. Let’s have a look:
Sadaf Kanwal’s ‘Our husbands are our culture’
The model-turned-actress has always found reasons to stay in the limelight. She became the centre of attention on her anti-remarks on feminism.
But Sadaf did not stop here, earlier this year in July during an interview, Kanwal called her husband ‘culture’, “Our husbands are our culture. I have married him, I have to pick up his shoes, I will iron his clothes, which I actually do very little, but I know where Sherry’s clothes are. I know where each of Sherry’s stuff is.”
On a lighter note, NO Sadaf ‘husbands are not our culture’.
“Because I am a woman, Sherry doesn’t have to know [this] about me. He should know, but I should know more. I believe this because I’ve grown up seeing this.” These were the exact words of Sadaf Kanwal about her thinking about women and her purpose in life.
Imran Khan’s comments about rape
Since Imran Khan has become Minister Imran of the country, he has never left a chance to shock the people. It was June 2021, when Imran Khan was questioned by the Axios journalist Jonathan Swan about the ongoing ‘rape epidemic’ in Pakistan and to our surprise, the prime minister responded by saying: “If a woman is wearing very few clothes it will have an impact on the man unless they are robots. It’s common sense.”
Mathira Mohammad’s ‘Stop calling me plastic’
Mathira has constantly been the victim of body shaming. However, this year, she decided to ask the public to stop shaming her for what seems like.
In an Instagram story, Mathira wrote, “I’m chubby and I’m happy like this. Who are you to shame me? Focus on yourself please.” She then added that she was done with the public constantly asking questions about her body and shaming her for the way she looked.
“I’m so tired of people saying why I have done implants and all… Seriously it’s a shame. I have hormonal imbalances issue. Stop it.” Mathira then said if she were ever to get a surgery, she wouldn’t deny it.
“If I get surgeries, I will certainly own up to it. I have put on weight. Please stop this nonsense of calling me plastic,” she added.
Meera’s visit to mental asylum
Actress Meera is literally the scandal queen of Pakistan. Earlier this year there was news that the actress has been admitted to an asylum in the US due to some mental illness.
When asked about the incident, Meera angrily reacted, “There’s a lobby that’s working against me, they keep slandering my character to bring shame to my stardom.” She also claimed that she’s being “subjected to mental torture in the US”.
Ali Azmat’s harsh remarks on Noor Jehan
Famous for his hit 00s songs, Ali Azmat garnered widespread criticism in Pakistan when he called the legendary singer Noor Jehan a ‘kofta’ singing on-screen.
“Our own society and culture weren’t really offering anything similar. You put on a show, you would see Noor Jehan draped in a saree, with heavy jewellery and over-the-top makeup. We would get irritated by mai (elderly woman). We would think why would they make us watch this kofta (meatball).”, these were Azmat’s exact remarks during an interview that aired in October.
