KARACHI: An operation has been launched to rescue a ship stranded on the beach which was stalled due to inclement weather yesterday.

According to details, an operation was launched to rescue the ship stranded on the beach in the Sea View area of Karachi. Work is underway to remove sand from the sides of the ship.

Teams from Maritime Security, Pakistan Navy, and KPT are taking part in the operation to rescue the stranded ship.

The operation to evacuate the ship stranded on the beach was halted yesterday due to flooding and weather conditions at sea. The Pakistan Navy team is monitoring the ship 24 hours a day. Officials say the evacuation will be completed soon.

It may be recalled that the operation of re-floating of a ship stranded on Sea View could not be started yesterday which was predicted to start soon. Regarding the re-floating of the ship stranded on the shores of other Sea View, the shipping agent said yesterday that the operation was not started due to unfavorable weather and sea conditions.

Last month, KPT officials said that powerful salvage tugs would have to be used to evacuate the ship, but no formal request for evacuation was made by the ship’s owner.

When the ship arrived from Singapore on July 18 to change crew, the anchor was lost due to bad weather while the engine was weak. Unable to withstand the force of the waves, the ship reached the shore and sank in the sand. Federal Minister Ali Zaidi told the media that arrangements have been made to avoid oil spills from the plane.

Ali Zaidi, a federal minister living in quarantine because of coronavirus, said: “I have limited myself, but I am monitoring the plans to evacuate the stranded ship.”

Talking about the ship on July 25 last month, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi said that the ship is at a level of half a meter in the water which requires a level of 5 meters to take it out.

He said that National Maritime Disaster Contingency Plan has been activated for the stranded ship. The owner of the ship will be responsible for rescue operations under the regulations.
