NEW YORK: Pakistani Ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram has said that Pakistan regretted that it was not invited to participate in the UN Security Council.

Talking about the Security Council meeting held yesterday, Munir Akram said that Pakistan made every effort to find a political solution to the Afghan problem. Many armed groups do not want peace in Afghanistan, he stated.

Munir Akram said that Pakistan would not allow its territory to be used against Afghanistan while there was no military solution to the Afghan problem. Pakistan was not invited to the Security Council meeting which is against the law, he complained.

Earlier, representatives of various countries sat together at a Security Council meeting convened at the request of Afghanistan. The United States, which withdrew from Afghanistan after a 20-year war, called for a solution to the Afghan problem through intra-Afghan dialogue.

Britain, an ally of the United States, has said it will not accept the Taliban’s decision to form a government through war. He said that China claimed that the United States and NATO countries should not shake hands and pursue the Afghan issue. The head of the Afghan mission described the current situation in Afghanistan as similar to that in Syria.

The head of the Afghan mission said that the situation in Afghanistan was no different from that in Syria. Taliban travel permits must be conditional. The Pakistani envoy wrote a letter to the President of the Security Council not to invite Pakistan to the Security Council meeting.

In a letter to the President of the Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram said that Pakistan has been affected by the situation in Afghanistan for the past two decades. If an NGO can be invited to a Security Council meeting, why not Pakistan, he maintained.
