ISLAMABAD: Law-enforcement authorities have arrested the second taxi driver allegedly involved in kidnapping and assaulting the Afghan ambassador’s daughter.
Interior Minister Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed said authorities are in touch with one of two taxi drivers whose services the daughter of the ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan utilised on the day she was assaulted.
Earlier, a case of alleged kidnapping and assault on the daughter of Afghanistan Ambassador to Pakistan was registered at Kohsar police station. The case was reportedly registered by the complaint Silsila Alikhel, the daughter of the Afghan envoy. The case has been filed under the clauses of kidnapping, manhandling, and issuing threats.
The girl in her statement said she went shopping in a taxi. While returning in another taxi, the vehicle stopped for a while when suddenly a man entered and sat inside She added dded that an unknown man started attacking her and she fell unconscious.
She found herself on a garbage heap when her eyes opened. Instead of going home, she went to a park and called the office staff of my father which took her back home, she stated in her complaint.
A day ago, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that Islamabad police is in contact with the Afghan ambassador and his family and the government taking all necessary measures to arrest the culprits.
The daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan was “briefly kidnapped” and “man-handled” by unknown assailants in Islamabad on Friday, the Foreign Office said in a statement/
Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken strict notice of the alleged incident and had directed the interior ministry to arrest culprits within 48 hours. He also directed Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed to take every possible step to arrest the culprits behind the incident.
The prime minister said that all law enforcement agencies must probe the matter on priority basis and make use of all available resources to apprehend the abductors.
The Foreign Office had earlier issued a statement saying that the culprits are being traced to be brought to justice. “Yesterday, the daughter of the ambassador was assaulted while riding a rented vehicle,” said a statement issued by the FO, quoting the spokesperson, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri.
According to the statement, immediately after the disturbing incident was reported, the Islamabad Police launched a thorough investigation. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant security authorities are closely in contact with the ambassador and his family and extending full support in the matter,” the statement added.
It said that the security of the ambassador and his family “has been beefed up” and in the meanwhile, law enforcement agencies “are trying to trace and apprehend the culprits to be brought to justice”. According to a statement by the Afghan foreign ministry, the ambassador’s daughter was abducted for several hours and tortured.
