KARACHI: Anti-Corruption Establishment has initiated an enquiry regarding illegal appointments and other irregularities in Dawood University of Engineering and Technology.
Deputy Director, ACE East Zone II, has written a letter to the Registrar, Dawood University, seeking details regarding the inquiry against the Vice-Chancellor and others university employees.
According to the letter, a copy of which was received by MM News, the inquiry officer Abdul Ghani said he has been authorized to hold the enquiry which will be finalized on merit.
The director has summoned several employees of the university to the ACE East Zone II office of July 9, 2021, to receive their confessional statements and records.
The summoned officers include Engineer Sajid Siyal, Engineer Darya Khan Kakepoto, Assistant Professor Dr Mujtaba, Geologist Tehmina Siddique, Lab Engineer Tariq Chandio, and Assistant Director Adeel Naich.
It has been learned that a confidential report regarding illegal appointments in Dawood University of Engineering and Technology was sent to ACE which revealed that Asif Ali Shah was appointed in the university without any advertisement of the vacancy. He worked as a lecturer for the university from 2008 to 2014 through the Direct Regulated Service without approval of the Syndicate.
The appointment of engineer Sajid Hussain Siyal, Fida Khoso, Darya Khan and others was also done without advertisement and approval of the selection board. Besides, non-engineers have been appointed who do not have Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) number.
The appointment of Assistant Professor Dr Ghulam Mujtaba in the Department of Energy is also illegal, while Tehmina Siddiqui was appointed as geologist without any advertisement.
According to a letter written to the anti-corruption department, several the employees in the Electronics department have fake degrees and it is necessary to inquire into the matter. A copy of the degrees and other documents have also been attached and an inquiry has been initiated.
