Did short film ‘Full Circle’ just normalize ’emotional abuse’ in marriage?

When it comes to Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza together in one frame, this thought always gets me excited as both are not only brilliant actors but also their starter ‘Bachaana’ was a treat for everyone as well, somehow, these actors unintentionally gave a wrong message in their recent short movie ‘Full Circle’.

There is indeed a reason why Indians love Pakistani dramas and why they shouldn’t? Our dramas are a complete package; excellent actors, a strong storyline with simple dress codes, and light make-ups. Why only Indians everyone would love to watch our dramas. However, there is one thing that we might not ignore is the emotional abuse has become the selling point of Pakistani dramas.

The same emotional abuse was seen in ‘Full Circle’. those who have not watched it yet should know the story revolves around a writer named Sameer (Mohib Mirza) and his wife Zehra (Sanam Saeed) having gone through a tragic accident together which cause a temporary memory loss, now they get stuck in a new unfamiliar life.

The couple is seen trying to reconnect and recall how they got where they are in a 30-minute short film. Here are few points that summoned up a drama ‘traumatic’ and here’s how:

1) The couple with temporary memory loss woke up as complete strangers are advised to live like husband and wife under the same roof by their doctor.

2) The couple somehow keeps having a flashback of how toxic their relationship was in the past, for example, she cooks his favourite foods and he turns down the offer abruptly as he is busy writing.

3) Furthermore flashbacks reveal how both do not agree on anything mutually.

4) Zehra is seen taking antidepressants and her mental health is being affected in past.

5) In their final argument (flashback) she laments how she left her ambition, career, family, lifestyle because he needed to focus on his career, and he on other hand, was never available emotionally.

6) She finally asks for divorce which he agrees eventually and when they reach the office of their lawyer, it’s there when they meet with an accident.

7) Now in present, recalling half of the truth, the lawyer of Zehra reveals how she wanted a divorce on such a trivial difference ( as per lawyer).

8) Yes, unfortunately, the lawyer thinks emotional abuse and taking anti-depressants is quite common in marital life and one need to know how to handle it as one should not take divorce on such a basis.

9) Zehra is also told that her lawyer previously also tried to convince her and made her rethink her decision of taking ‘khula’.

10) The ending of the short film concludes with the couple getting back (although in previous scenes Zahra is convinced that she and her husband were not happy at all) together because marriage can work out if one compromise.
