PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Mahmood Khan has urged citizens and political leaders to avoid holding public gatherings on Eid-ul-Fitr amid surging in the COVID-19 cases.
Chief Minister, Mahmood Khan that devising a result-oriented strategy and collective efforts on part of each and every citizen are needed to combat COVID-19 and save precious lives.
He said that leadership of political parties and representatives should also create awareness among people regarding COVID-19 preventive measures and advise people to abide by corona SOPs.
The third wave of the coronavirus has entangled the whole country and the government was making incessant efforts to fight the looming danger in wake of corona spread, Mahmood Khan added.
He said that cooperation of the country’s political leadership and efforts of government would have a synergistic effect on corona controlling efforts adding that minor negligence could further aggravate the situation.
Coronavirus was not a political, personal or administrative issue but the seriousness of the situation demands devising a common strategy and collective efforts of society, he stressed.
Political leaders and elected representatives should avoid holding public meetings and events in their constituencies on eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. He also prayed for the health and wellbeing of people in the current situation of corona spread.
Pakistan has reported 120 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 854,240. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 18,797 on Saturday.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 4,109 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths and cases followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Till now 8,951 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,722 in Sindh, 3,562 in KP, 706 in Islamabad, 503 in Azad Kashmir, 246 in Balochistan, and 107 in GB.
