The protests took the lives of three people and wounded more than 100 police officers. The government has registered cases against the protesters for creating chaos, vandalising public and private properties, and beating up police personnel.

Nearly 100 policemen were left injured during clashes with the protesters. Some 2,135 protesters have been arrested from across the country, out of which 1,669 were from Punjab and 228 from Sindh.

A day earlier, the government issued a notification to ban the Tehreek e Labaik Pakistan (TLP) party, under the Anti Terrorism Act 1997 and declared it a proscribed organisation.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Interior said the decision has been taken as the “Federal Government has reasonable grounds to believe that Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan is engaged in terrorism, [has] acted in a manner prejudicial to the peace and security of the country, involved in creating anarchy in the country by intimidating the public.”
