ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar to resign from his post to ensure the transparent investigation into the fuel crisis.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar addressing to media on Friday said that Imran Khan has also vowed to take strict actions against oil companies and bureaucracy.
Asad Umar said that the prime minister has also removed Secretary for Petroleum Division from his post and asked him to report to the Establishment Division once his replacement is finalized.
The minister said that neither SAPM on Petroleum Nadeem Babar or the Secretary Petroleum Mian Asad Hayaud Din have been found guilty in the Petroleum Crisis that occurred last year, although, they have been asked to resign from their posts for a transparent investigation into the issue.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also been directed to present a forensic audit report in 90 days and a special team has also been formed and anyone found guilty will be dealt with according to the law, he informed.
Asad Umar said that FIA will probe the negligence in the entire episode as they have been tasked to bring forward evidence in this regard. Besides this, the petroleum division has also written a letter to the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) in a bid to carry out the forensic audit of oil marketing companies, he said.
The Petroleum Division, which represents the executive branch, and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) played a central role in the law according to which all the petroleum sector was run, the minister noted.
He said uncertainty had been created by the lawmaking done so far about which actions were the responsibility of OGRA, the regulator, and which were to be taken care of by the Petroleum Division.
