SINDH: At least four children were injured in an explosion outside the office of the deputy superintendent of police in Ghotki’s Ubauro on Sunday.
According to sources, the children were playing in the area when the explosion occurred. As a result, they sustained injuries. The injured have been rushed to the Ubauro Katcheri Hospital for treatment.
Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A bomb disposal squad from Sukkur has been called in as well.
Sources said the situation was further complicated when the injured children were shifted to Tehsil Hospital Ubauro, where the citizens were enraged at the absence of doctors in the hospital and they started vandalizing the hospital and causing severe damage to the hospital. Later the children were taken to a private hospital.
No casualty has been reported so far. The intensity of the blast cannot be ascertained yet but investigations are underway. Meanwhile, the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) has sought a detailed inquiry report from concerned police officials about the incident.
The IGP chief asked the officer to submit a detailed report about actions taken in this regard, informed the spokesman of Sindh Police. Earlier, an unidentified person hurled a cracker at DSP Gulbahar Office in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area which could not explode.
On 22 December 2010, five people were injured after a boiler exploded at the Karachi Port. The incident took place at Gate No. 18 on West Wharf Road in Keamari, where a fire erupted following the blast.
