ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Dr Shahbaz Gill has said that the result of the election between Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and Yousaf Raza Gillani will be challenged.

Following the announcement of results by ECP, Shahbaz Gill said the winning difference was only 5 votes while 7 votes were rejected. “We will now challenge this result,” he tweeted.

غیر حتمی طور پر 7 ووٹ رجیکٹ ہوئے ہیں۔ پانچ ووٹ کا فرق ہے۔ ابھی اس نتیجہ کو چیلنج کریں گے۔

Just an initial response

He said PTI’s Fauzia Arshad has won by 13 votes. Assembly members sold votes for money on the same ballot paper, proving Imran Khan correct, Gill wrote.

The Special Assistant said that once again, the vote was sold off in Senate elections. After the video of Ali Haider Gillani came out, it became clear that the “Gilani clan” was buying votes.

In a blow to the government, the joint opposition candidate Gilani won the hotly contested general seat from Islamabad, beating Shaikh. Gilani secured 169 votes while Shaikh bagged 164 votes.

Yousaf Raza Gilani, a former prime minister who belongs to the PPP, enjoyed the support of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance cobbled together by a dozen opposition parties against the embattled government of the Prime Minister Imran Khan.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called it a victory for democracy. “Democracy is the best revenge,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle after the results were announced.

Democracy is the best revenge. Jeya Bhutto!

PPP leader Naveed Qamar has claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Senate election vote was rejected on Wednesday.

However, it is not clear on what grounds the PPP leader made the claim because the votes polled during the election for the upper house are anonymous.

Talking to a private news channel he said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vote against  Yousaf Raza Gilani was rejected.” Qamar said, “Shehryar Afridi and Zartaj Gul Wazir’s votes have also been rejected.”
