ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has rejected a summary of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) which recommended an increase in prices of petroleum products from February 16.
“The federal government will not increase fuel prices for the remaining days of the ongoing month in order to provide relief to the masses,” said the PM in a statement.
Following the prime minister’s decision, the Ministry of Finance stated that the petrol price will remain unchanged at Rs111.90 per litre and that the price of diesel will remain Rs116.07 per litre as before.
The prices of kerosene oil and light diesel will also remain at Rs80.19 and Rs79.23 respectively, according to the finance ministry.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) in its summary had proposed an Rs14.7 per liter hike in petrol price from February 16. The OGRA had recommended raising Rs13.61 per liter on high-speed diesel and Rs7.43 on light diesel.
It is to be noted that under the government’s instruction, OGRA is required to calculate oil prices on the basis of 17 percent general sales tax and maximum petroleum levy permissible under the law at Rs30 per litre on HSD and petrol.
In the last 75 days, the federal government has increased petrol price by Rs11.21 per litre, HSD by Rs14.64 per litre, kerosene oil by Rs14.90 per litre, and LDO by Rs16.37 per litre.
It may be recalled that since December 1, petroleum products have gone up by Rs 16.37 per litre. Last month, the government had increased the price of petrol by Rs 2.70 per litre while the price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 2.88 per litre.
