ISLAMABAD: The UAE embassy in Pakistan organised an immunisation programme to vaccinate employees and all cadres of its representative offices against the coronavirus on Friday.
According to the embassy, the vaccination programme continued for two days, till 22nd January, after the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) authorised Sinopharm vaccine in Pakistan.
Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al Zaabi, the UAE ambassador, said on the occasion that the vaccination programme is based on embassy’s commitment towards social responsibility and to effectively contribute in efforts aimed at the safety of the society and preserving the health of its communities.
The DRAP earlier this month approved China’s Sinopharm and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines for emergency use.
China will gift half-million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Pakistan by the end of this month, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced, following his telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Thursday.
More than 2 million people in the United Arab Emirates have already received the Sinopharm vaccine, which is available for free to all citizens and residents along with Pfizer-BioNTech and other vaccines, as the UAE is on its way to vaccinate half of its population against the coronavirus.
