PESHAWAR: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, and its surrounding areas in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Jaram area of neighboring Afghanistan at the depth of 191 kilometers.
Sources said the tremor was also felt in Nowshehra, Charsadda, Mardan, Bunair, Chitral, Swat Dir, Malakand and their adjoining areas.
People came out of their homes in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. No loss of life and property was reported from any part of Quetta due to the earthquake.
On November 6, a moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining. An earthquake had jolted Swat and adjoining areas. No loss of life or property was reported. According to the seismological center, the depth of the earthquake was 40 km. The epicenter was on the Pak-Afghan border.
Due to the earthquake, people came out of their homes reciting prayers. It may be recalled that tremors were felt in different parts of Balochistan including Khuzdar last month.
According to the seismological center, the magnitude of the quake was 4 and the depth was 20 km while its epicenter was 90 km away from Khuzdar. It may be recalled that even two months ago, tremors were felt in Lasbela district and surrounding areas of Balochistan.
