CHRISTCHURCH: New Zealand defeated Pakistan by an innings and 186 runs to win the second Test at the Hagley Oval to win the series 2-0.
New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson grabbed six wickets in the second innings as Pakistan were all out for 186 runs on day four. Zafar Gohar scored 37 runs including seven fours while Faheem Ashraf scored 28 runs but were no match to the bowling attack.
Jamieson picked three of the four wickets to fall after lunch as Pakistan went to tea on day four at 134 for seven. He picked eleven wickets in the match including 5-69 in the first innings. He became the first pacer to take 10 wickets in a Test at Hagley.
The visitors resumed the day at 8/1 and needed better resistance by the batters to salvage a draw after day three’s humiliation. Boult took the first wicket, dismissing nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas out for three in the fifth over. Jamieson removed Abid Ali for 26 to go with his dismissal of Shan Masood the previous evening and Pakistan went to lunch at 69/3.
Jamieson dismissed Haris Sohail (15) and Azhar Ali (37) caught behind, and bowled Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan (10) to have the tourists at 98 for six. Boult came back for his second wicket of the day when he dismissed Fawad Alam for 16. The final three wickets came on the fourth day after tea.
