ISLAMABAD: Cabinet committee has approved the procurement of over one million units of coronavirus vaccines, Asad Umar, the head of the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) informed on Wednesday.
On a social media website Twitter, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives announced the development. He said, “The target is to deploy these vaccines within the first quarter of 2021”.

He said what remains now is for DRAP (Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan) to approve a vaccine. According to a statement by NCOC, “Pakistan is in close contact with vaccine manufacturers to obtain a vaccine soon”.
Furthermore, a National Immunisation Management System has already been prepared with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Health, the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), and National Information Technology Board (NITB).
An effective supply of the vaccine will be ensured through the system, read a statement. Citizens will register themselves through SMS and online for vaccinations. The system will become fully operational by mid-January, the statement said.
Another 55 people have lost their lives in Pakistan due to the global epidemic coronavirus and the total number of deaths has risen to 10,047.
According to the National Command and Control Center, 2,155 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 477,240. In Pakistan, 430,113 coronavirus patients have recovered and 37,080 are undergoing treatment.
The highest number of deaths due to coronavirus was in Punjab where 3,982 people lost their lives while 3,520 in Sindh, 1,627 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 415 in Islamabad, 101 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 182 in Balochistan, and 220 in Azad Kashmir.
The number of coronavirus cases in Islamabad is 37,556, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 57,982, Sindh 213,193, Punjab 137,295, Balochistan 18,118, Azad Kashmir 8,241 and Gilgit-Baltistan 4,8522 people have been affected by a coronavirus.
