ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz as the new chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The Meeting of the Federal Cabinet with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair was held in Islamabad today (Tuesday). The cabinet members mull over the political, economic situation of the country besides reviewing the matters related to the COVID-19 pandemic and security issues.
The post was vacant after the resignation of Lt-Gen Muhammad Afzal. He also retired from the Army after serving for 38 years. The role of NDMA remained crucial during Covid-19 and in natural disasters like floods this year in Southern Punjab areas.
Lieutenant-General Akhtar Nawaz’s name was approved after Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal retired from the post. He was commissioned in 174 Engineer Battalion in Mar 1986. He secured a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s Degree in Geo-Technical Engineering from the Military College of Engineering.
