ISLAMABAD: The National Coordination Committee (NCC) on housing held its weekly meeting today (Thursday) to deliberate over utility connections for new construction projects across the country.
The session was presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan wherein it was briefed that new connections shall be sought and approved through an online service for which Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and State Bank are hammering out a strategy.
The housing secretary briefed the meeting that 6000 apartments will be constructed in Pakistan Quarters project. “In the first phase, 700 units will be constructed with an expenditure of Rs4 billion and the work on this phase will begin within three months,” he added.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the concerned authorities to simplify the NOC procedure and approval process for provision of new electricity connections.
“Presently, there is no shortage of electricity in the country and hence, there is no justification of delay in the provision of a new connection,” he said, adding that the government aimed to provide shelter to people, therefore facilities and simple procedures should be ensured.
The Prime Minister also made it clear that since the current procedure is creating difficulties for the construction sector, the long process of approvals for utility connections must be simplified.
PM Imran further directed that no additional burden should be put on those, who intend to get a loan on easy installments for the construction of their homes under Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.
The PM also advised the FBR chairman to formulate a set of facilities for overseas Pakistani who looks forward to investing in the home country. “Overseas Pakistanis are our priceless asset, and directed FBR head to remove impediments in their investments,” he added.
