KARACHI: Daughter of former Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has passed away due to COVID-19 in Karachi on Tuesday.

The former CM Balochistan daughter, Ayesha Zehri aged 22, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi after contracting the COVID-19. She will be laid to rest in Karachi.

The novel COVID-19 has claimed 13 more lives and infected at least 1382 people during the past 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed infections to 166,033 in Sindh province.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Tuesday said 13 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 2,858 and 1,382 new cases emerged when 11,738 tests were conducted.

The chief minister said that 11,738 tests were conducted against which 1,382 cases were diagnosed that constituted 11.8 percent current detection rate.

So far 1,917,813 samples have been tested which detected 166,033 cases, of the 88.5 percent or 146,957 patients have recovered, including 591 overnight, he added.

The Sindh CM said that currently, 16,218 patients were under treatment, of them 15,535 in-home isolation, 12 at Isolation Centers and 671 at different hospitals. He informed that the condition of 619 patients was stated to be critical, including 74 shifted to ventilators.

In recent months, the country’s coronavirus infections and deaths have seen a sharp increase. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the number of active cases stood at 40,379 as the positivity rate rises in many parts of the country.

A total of 39,165 tests were conducted across the country during this period out of which 2,954 cases were positive on Tuesday.
