NAWABSHAH: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly burnt to death in the Nawabshah area of Sindh.
According to sources, the girl had gone missing on Friday evening in Mir Hasan village while playing with other children outside her home.
When she did not return home till night, the family started searching, sources added. Later, her burnt body was found in a field the next day.
After being informed, police and rescue officials rushed to the scene and shifted the body to the hospital for medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, the police registered a case and launched investigations into the murder.
Police said the girl might be raped before death however, the actual cause of the death could be ascertained after a medical report.
Sexual violence against women is on the rise in the country with several cases reported on a daily basis. Earlier, the Punjab police department had said more than 2500 rape cases reported in the province during the last eight months of the current year.
According to a report issued by the Punjab Police, the crime rate in Punjab increased by 14 percent in the province during the ongoing year as compared to the previous year.
More than 328, 00 rape cases were reported in different areas of the province during the last eight months, according to data compiled by the police department.
The report said more than 160 murder cases were reported from January 01 till August 10, while the robbery was reported 11,587 times in Punjab.
On September 6, the body of a five-year-old girl had been found stuffed inside a gunny bag in Karachi’s Essa Nagri neighborhood.
Police had said the body was found abandoned in a trash heap on an empty plot in the Pir Bukhari colony.
Local residents had said the body was in an appalling condition as the girl might have been set ablaze. She had been identified as Marwa, who had gone missing from PIB Colony. An FIR of her missing had been registered at the relevant police station on her father’s complaint.
