KARACHI: Despite the orders from Deputy Commissioner, the concerned authorities have failed to close the Bachat Bazaars in District Central of the metropolis.
Earlier on October 13, deputy commissioner Dr Raja Dharejo, in a notification, said Bachat and car bazaars and other congregations were suspended in Karachi’s district central amid fears of coronavirus spreading in the district.
According to the notification, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 3 of Sindh Epidemic Act 2014, to prevent the general public from the spread of Covid 19, all the permissions/NOCs issued from time to time to hold Bachat bazaars, car bazaars, and any other permission for congregations within the jurisdiction of District Central Karachi, are hereby cancelled/withdrawn forthwith.”
The deputy commissioner warned that any violation of the order would be strictly dealt with as per government rules. However, no action has been taken yet against the violators.
A total of 31 savings bazaars are set up at various places in the Central District. Sources have informed that almost 12 illegal Bachat Bazaars are set up under the alleged patronage of district administration officers.
Sources further informed that these bazaars were not only creating hurdles in the execution of uplift projects in different parts of the city but also causing many civic issues in the respective areas.
