KARACHI: The concerned authorities today (Friday) shut down thirteen educational institutions across Pakistan in the past 24 hours for flouting health guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said.

According to a statement issued by the NCOC, ten educational institutions were closed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), while three were shut down in Sindh for ‘non-compliance of health guidelines and protocols and disease prevalence.’

Meanwhile, the Sindh Education Department has informed that coronavirus has been detected in 88 school teachers in the province. The results of 2,500 tests have been received out of 13,000 samples that were collected from different schools across the province.

Earlier on Thursday, the NCOC informed that the government had closed down 22 schools in 48 hours for similar purposes. The NCOC informed that 16 educational institutions were closed in KP, five in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and one in Islamabad.

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi also suspended academic activities at both its campuses for two days. IBA Head of Marketing and Communications Haris Tohid said that campuses have not been shut down, only academic activity has been suspended.

On the other hand, three colleges were closed down in the Hyderabad division after several Covid-19 cases were reported among teaching and non-teaching staff.

The closures came shortly after all educational institutions, including seminaries, reopened from Tuesday after a six-month break amid concerns over the implementation of COVID-19 safety protocols.
