KARACHI: The 72nd death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, is being observed with utmost devotion and respect today.
Various events at the public and private levels will also be organized on the occasion. Born as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he was given the title of ‘Quaid-e-Azam’ by Maulana Mazharuddin in 1937. Under his enthusiastic leadership, the Muslims of India gained a separate homeland ‘Pakistan’ and got rid of British domination.
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born on 25th December 1876 in Karachi. He began his primary education in his hometown in 1882 and moved to England in 1893 to pursue higher education. In 1896, the Quaid-e-Azam passed the barrister’s examination and returned home.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a lawyer by profession and shortly after his return, Quaid-e-Azam began to be counted among the renowned legislators of the subcontinent.
After returning to the subcontinent, Quaid-e-Azam formally participated in politics and joined the Indian National Congress in 1906. After becoming a part of the Congress, he realized that this party was not representative of all the inhabitants of the subcontinent but only of the Hindus.

Quaid-e-Azam joined the All India Muslim League in 1913 but did not give up hope and continued to work with the Congress. Fed up with the pro-Hindu policies of the Congress, Quaid-e-Azam finally said goodbye to the Congress in 1920 and joined the Muslim League, the party representing Muslims, till his last breath.
Under the umbrella of this party, Quaid-e-Azam got a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. After the formation of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam became the first Governor-General of Pakistan and held this post till his death on 11th September 1948.
