ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has withdrawn his petition against being declared a fugitive in the Toshakhana reference.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted the hearing during which he questioned Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer about the status of his client’s bail.

“I have been instructed to withdraw the petition,” lawyer Jahangir Khan Jadoon told the court. The court granted the petition of Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer and rejected the petition on withdrawal of Nawaz Sharif’s petition.

Nawaz Sharif had taken a stand in his petition that he was not a fugitive but went abroad on bail. He is undergoing treatment abroad, so he should be allowed to face trial through a representative.

The petitioner said that the accountability court had issued bailable arrest warrants on 29th May and non-bailable arrest warrants on 11th June, while the court had started the process of declaring the case public on 30th June 30, therefore the orders of the accountability court should be revoked.

Nawaz Sharif is accused of getting a car from Toshakhana during the previous PPP government and Anwar Majeed paid for it through a fake bank account. The former prime minister was not in any post in 2008 and he had not even applied for a car from Toshakhana.
