SOUTHAMPTON: Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam has regained his career-best fifth position in ICC’s Test rankings and became the only batsman in the world to be ranked among top-five across formats.
Babar, who was at the 6th spot before the start of the second Test against England, has leapfrogged Australia’s David Warner to enter the top-5. He scored a fighting 127-ball 47 in the first innings of the 2nd Test, which eventually ended in a draw.
The stylish batsman is currently the No.1 ranked T20I batsman in the world with 879 points. He has been equally brilliant in ODI cricket and is ranked at number three just behind the Indian duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The 24-year-old batsman is also the only Pakistani batsmen ranked among the top 10 in all three formats. Pakistani pacer, Muhammad Abbas also moved up to the eighth spot after his 2/28 in the second Test against England.
England fast bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson have also advanced in the ICC Test Player Rankings. Broad has moved up one slot to the second position while Anderson has moved up two slots to 14th.
In the ICC World Test Championship points table, England remains in the third position with 279 points while Pakistan is fifth with 153.
