ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court on Thursday adjourned proceedings hearing of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) case against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The hearing was adjourned without any proceedings till 7th September due to unavailability of Accountablity Court Judge Azam Khan.
Speaking to media after his appearing before the court, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) deplored the failure of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference for over two years.
Abbasi said has has not been provided with the copy of reference despite appearances for the past thirteen months, and the anti-graft watchdog has added him to the list of billionaires.
Abbasi ruled out allegations of money laundering and said that he and his son paid all taxes. He questioned how public funds can be used for money laundering. He also demanded that NAB should be disbanded.
Abbasi, Miftah Ismail and former PSO Managing Director Imran-ul-Haq and others are facing charges of corruption over awarding a LNG import contract allegedly at exorbitant rates in 2015 caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.
In 2013, Abbasi awarded a LNG import and distribution contract to the Elengy Terminal in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and relevant laws.
