LONDON: Pakistan’s seamer Mohammad Abbas contract with Nottinghamshire has been cancelled but the country club hoped he will represent them in the future.
Abbas was contracted to play nine county championship fixtures before the season was pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic. County chief executives hope to organise a cricket competition in August, when Abbas would be playing in Pakistan’s Test series in England.
Abbas will be traveling with the 29-man squad to England in a specially chartered flight on 28th June. The pacer will primarily be a part of the Test team scheduled to play three matches on the tour while Pakistan will also play three T20Is as well
“We hope that circumstances will allow Mohammad to play some Test cricket in England this summer for Pakistan, and will certainly be watching with interest,” Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, said.
“His ability, nous and experience have made him a threatening proposition in English conditions, and whilst it’s impossible for him to link up with us this year, we’re certainly not closing the door on welcoming him to Trent Bridge in the future.”
Nottinghamshire are also planning to bring back Imad Wasim after his successful spell last season. Imad is part of Pakistan’s sqaud and could be available if the T20 Blast cricket tournarment is held in September.
