Team formed to probe smuggled mobile phones case in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad International Airport’s cargo customs department officials have formed a team to probe smuggled mobile phones worth millions after sensational revelations by an arrested accused.

As per details, collector customs, Saleem Raza Bukhari has formed a team headed by customs additional collector to investigate smuggled mobile phones more than 350 million after sensational revelations by an arrested accused Abdul Razaq.

During the initial investigation, the accused Abdul Razzaq revealed that he had been importing mobile phones and other goods from abroad with the help of Aga Khan Foundation officials since 2007 and was saving millions of rupees income tax in the name of NGOs.

The accused also disclosed that he brought several precious mobile phones from abroad for Pakistani dealers in the name of the Aga Khan Foundation by showing it as helicopter parts.

During the interrogation, it was further revealed that the accused has been in touch with the Aga Khan Foundation since 2007. 

On the other hand, Customs investigation officers said that the accused Abdul Razzaq had provided documents to customs regarding the involvement of Aga Khan Foundation officials in the smuggling.

However, customs officials said that the Aga Khan Foundation will also be included in the investigation to determine the actual smugglers and their facilitators.
